The seminar aimed to support the development of the collective management system in Ukraine through the exchange of EU best practices and international experience, as well as discussions on aligning Ukrainian legislation and administrative frameworks with European standards.
The programme included a comparative analysis of Ukrainian legislation and Directive 2014/26/EU on collective management of copyright and related rights. Participants also explored the experience of the Netherlands and France in collective management, including governance models, tariff-setting, distribution of royalties, supervision, and accountability.
An important part of the seminar was a roundtable discussion on ways to improve the collective management system and the governance of collective management organisations in Ukraine. A dedicated workshop also addressed the roles and responsibilities of the key stakeholders involved in ensuring effective collective management, including collective management organisations, authors, performers, producers, publishers, users, and supervisory authorities.
For the UARA team, participation in the seminar provided an opportunity to engage in professional dialogue on current challenges and prospects for collective management in Ukraine, learn about European approaches, and exchange views with experts in the field.
UARA remains committed to improving the legal and institutional framework for collective management. A transparent and effective system is essential to ensuring the proper protection of authors’ and right holders’ rights, the fair distribution of remuneration, and Ukraine’s continued integration into the European legal framework.
